Donald Trump Says It Will Be Easier To Climb Everest Than Scale Border Wall

Donald Trump has said the border wall between Mexico and the US will be more difficult to climb than Mount Everest.

For a bit of background to help you unpack this quote, the wall is reportedly set to be 30ft high, whereas Everest is 30,000ft and is the tallest mountain in the world; hundreds of people have died attempting to reach the summit.

Trump said the wall 'is very, very on its way'.

Speaking in Washington at the Major County Sheriffs and Major Cities Chiefs Association, Trump said: "This wall is very, very on its way. It's happening as we speak.

"We're building as we speak in the most desperately needed areas."

He then added: "It's a big wall. It's a strong wall, and it's a wall that people aren't going through very easy.

"They're gonna have to be in extremely good shape to get over this one. They would be able to climb Mount Everest a lot easier, I think."

OK, Donny, whatever you say.

Despite what he says, US media reports that no new walls are currently under construction, pointing out that he sometimes refers to the wall as a barrier and other times says it is 'steel slats'. But back in October, Homeland security secretary Kirstjen Nielsen did unveil a steel structure - across the US/Mexico border - which was 30ft tall and two-and-a-half-miles long.

Building 'the wall' was one of the POTUS' most publicised election promises, and it's one he is keen to see through. So much so he has vowed to declare a 'national emergency' if he needs to, to ensure that it gets built.

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said: "President Trump will sign the government funding bill, and as he has stated before he will also take other executive action - including a national emergency - to ensure we stop the national security and humanitarian crisis at the border. The President is once again delivering on his promise to build the wall, protect the border, and secure our great country."

However, it's been anything but plain sailing for Trump, who saw his government shutdown for 35 days after his demands for $5.7bn in taxpayer money to pay for the wall were shot down by officials, resulting in a deadlock.

According to CNN, a new bill, proposing a compromise and written with the hopes of preventing another governmental shutdown, has been submitted and will be voted on this week.
