Tensions are continuing to rise between the USA and North Korea. As widely reported around the world, after Kim Jong Un made a New Year's address in which he stated 'the nuclear button is always on the desk of my office', Donald Trump responded with a tweet announcing his button was 'much bigger & more powerful'.

North Korea's state-run media has now responded, with Rodong Sinmum, the ruling party newspaper, summarising its commentary by referring to Trump's tweets as 'the spasm of a lunatic'.

According to the Independent, The article (which used the acronym for North Korea's formal name, the Democratic People's Republic Of Korea) said: "The spasm of Trump in the new year reflects the desperate mental state of a loser who failed to check the vigorous advance of the army and people of the DPRK.

"He is making [a] bluff only to be diagnosed as a psychopath."

It's not the first time that the paper has published a disparaging story about Trump. Just a few days ago, it ran an article about Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House, Michael Woolf's incendiary book about Trump and his administration.

The article said the book's popularity 'foretells Trump's political demise' and that it represents 'rapidly surging anti-Trump sentiments in the international community'.

"The anti-Trump book is sweeping all over the world," the article said, "so Trump is being massively humiliated worldwide."

While the two countries have long had a fractious relationship, Trump's willingness to engage with and respond to North Korea is what has seen tensions drastically increase in recent months. He has consistently referred to Kim Jong Un as 'Little Rocket Man' and last summer Trump threatened North Korea with 'fire and fury like the world has never seen' - hence the name of Woolf's book.

Although it's not been verified, North Korea claims to have a fully deployable nuclear weapon. And while experts are skeptical about whether or not that is actually the case, the effects of that possibility are already evident.

On Saturday, an early-morning emergency alert mistakenly warning of an incoming ballistic missile attack was dispatched to cellphones across Hawaii, causing mass panic in the state. It turned out to be the result of human error.
