Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan could be jailed for 12 years after being charged following an alleged fight outside a nightclub, according to the Mirror.

The Turkish international is currently on loan at İstanbul Basaksehir and was questioned by police on Thursday in relation to the alleged fight at an Istanbul nightclub.

It is alleged that Turan attacked singer Berkay Sahin, who goes by the stage name Berkay, following a dispute relating to the pop star's wife, Ozlem Ada Sahin. Ms Sahin told Turkish newspaper Haberturk that the footballer had made 'suggestive' remarks to her before launching an attack on her husband.

Turan allegedly broke Sahin's nose in the attack and followed him to hospital, where a gun is said to have been fired, according to the Daily Sabah. It is alleged that Turan was begging for forgiveness and was asking that Sahin shoot him if he believed the harassment allegations to be true.

Turan has denied the allegations, writing on Instagram: "I would like to make a statement about the news in the papers.

"There was an argument on my day off at the place that I went with my friends, but the reason is not about honour and purity as reported.

"It is not possible to be that way."

However, Turkish prosecutors have charged the 31-year-old with sexual harassment, possession of unlicensed weapons, endangering general security and deliberate wounding, according to the state-run Anadolu news agency.

Sahin has also been charged for his involvement in the fight, with prosecutors demanding up to two years in prison.

A Turkish TV station has published footage from the aftermath of the incident, which claims to show Turan's involvement in a melee outside the nightclub. Clips allegedly taken from the hospital also appear to show a gun being thrown on a table.

Turan has amassed a century of caps for his national side, scoring two goals at Euro 2008, when Turkey reached the semi-finals. He commenced a two and a half year loan spell at Istanbul Basaksehir last season after struggling to break into the starting team at Barcelona.

Prior to that, he spent four seasons at Atletico Madrid, where he won La Liga, the Copa Del Rey, the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup. He started his career at Galatasaray, where he was given the captaincy at the age of 21.

He was given a 16-match ban earlier this year after he pushed an official.

Sahin has made his Instagram account private since the incident.
