Arsene Wenger has announced he is stepping down as Arsenal Football Club manager at the end of the season after 22 years, in huge news hitting the Premier League.

The Frenchman is a legend at the London club after winning 10 major trophies but he has experienced a difficult few seasons and some fans had turned on him. You must have seen the 'Wenger Out' signs on Match Of The Day?

With Arsenal struggling domestically this campaign, Wenger - who joined Arsenal in 1996 - has taken the decision to call it a day at the club following more than two decades. It is also a year before his current contract is due to end.

In a statement on Arsenal's website, Wenger said: "After careful consideration and following discussions with the club, I feel it is the right time for me to step down at the end of the season.

"I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years.

"I managed the club with full commitment and integrity.

"I want to thank the staff, the players, the Directors and the fans who make this club so special.

"I urge our fans to stand behind the team to finish on a high. To all the Arsenal lovers, take care of the values of the club."

Arsenal, who are in the Europa League semi-finals, have said they will be appointing Wenger's successor as soon as possible, with their current boss in charge until the end of 2017/18. Let's hope it's Brendan Rodgers for the LOLs.

Arsenal were never really in the title race this season and have not won the Premier League since 2004. They did win the FA Cup in 2017, which was the seventh time that Wenger has won the competition.

The Gunners won three Premier League titles under Wenger, including the 'Invincibles' season of 2003/04, when they went the whole campaign without beating beaten.

Arsenal majority owner Stan Kroenke said: "This is one of the most difficult days we have ever had in all our years in sport.

"One of the main reasons we got involved with Arsenal was because of what Arsene has brought to the club on and off the pitch.

"His longevity and consistency over such a sustained period at the highest level of the game will never be matched."

Merci for the memories, Arsene. Who will Arsenal bring in as a replacement?
