In the highest echelons of MMA and boxing, it is as much about the talk surrounding fights as the fight itself. Invariably, fans find themselves trying to keep up with the constant trading of verbal blows in the months building up to a big bout.

But when it comes to Conor McGregor, it seems there doesn't need to be a fight on the horizon for him to stir things up with a bit of trash talk.

Undefeated boxing champion, Floyd 'Money' Mayweather, evidently caught the Irishman's eye while at a press conference in Tokyo. In particular, it was Mayweather's choice of tracksuit which seemed to baffle McGregor.

Posting a picture from the press conference on Instagram, McGregor expressed his bewilderment in a foul-mouthed rant that gradually shifts from being purely abusive to almost respectful.

He said: "Is that a tracksuit or a sauna suit Floyd haha wtf. Is it hot in Tokyo or what's the story here? That climate change is no joke fuck me hahaha.

"What in the fuck is going on here? Who's this little prick next to you? That's mad shit. Like something out of rush hour 5 or something.

"Chris tucker and Jackie fucking Chan back in this bitch. Fucking brilliant.

"Mad little bastard you are Floyd. Fair fucks to you mate. No lie. Fuck it."

Wow, that's a lot to digest.

To answer his question, next to Mayweather is Japanese kickboxer, Tenshin Nasukawa, who the 41-year-old announced he would be fighting on New Year's Eve in Saitama, north of Tokyo.

Following Khabib Nurmagomedov's victory over McGregor last month, it looked like the 50-0 fighter could be braced to fight the Russian after he challenged him to determine who is 'king of the jungle'.

Despite having arranged a fight with 20-year-old Nasukawa, Mayweather did not rule out the possibility of fighting Khabib at the press conference in Tokyo - though it seems it if it does happen it will be on Mayweather's terms.

Speaking to CNN, he said: "I think Dana White is a great person, I think he's a great guy. We don't know what the future holds because sometimes I say I'm retired, but guess what? I come right back.

"So I want Dana to keep doing what he does. He's supposed to speak. He's supposed to talk. He's supposed to go out there and defend his company and defend his fighters.

"It's up to Khabib. If Khabib wants to fight in a boxing match we can. If you want to go to UFC and make the money that he's been making, he can.

"If he comes this way, he already knows it's a big prize. Or you can keep fighting for little small prizes that will never equal up to the big prize that you can make for fighting me. Because I'm the A-side.

"I don't need to fight in the octagon. I'm the A-side. So like I said before, if I was desperate and I needed to fight in the octagon, would I fight in the octagon? Absolutely not.

"I'll find a way if I was desperate and I was hurting for money. Like I said before, I still got nine figures, easy. Easy nine figures."

... By the way, just in case you didn't know, Mayweather loves money and has loads of it.

The format of his fight with Nasukawa is yet to be announced.
