Conor McGregor has taken to Twitter once again, following his brutal defeat to arch-rival Khabib Nurmagomedov on Sunday morning.

The Irishman was forced to tap out late in the fourth round after the Russian fighter trapped him in one of his trademark choke holds.

It saw the Dagestani native retain his lightweight title and extend his incredible unbeaten record in the UFC to 27-0.

But the bout was marred in controversy when the 30-year-old winner jumped out of the cage and attack his opponent's coaching staff.

Three men then entered the octagon and landed blows on McGregor.

Three men were later arrested and released after the Dubliner decided not to press charges.

In the immediate aftermath McGregor stayed silent, only to tweet that he felt it was a good fight and was 'looking forward to the rematch'.

A second tweet by the 30-year-old has raised speculation of a further of a return to the UFC - amid fears he might retire.

Shared to the fighter's 7.46million followers the tweet shows McGregor enjoying a drink of what seems to be his trademark whisky, and says: "We lost the match but won the battle. The war goes on."

UFC boss Dana White also announced that Khabib has not received his $2m purse for the fight as a result of the mass brawl and two other fighters from his camp will 'never' fight for the company again.

White is yet to confirm whether a rematch will take place.
