It’s Coming Home: England Fans Want To Lose Against Belgium In The World Cup

The theory goes that defeat on Thursday night would mean an easier run to the final of the World Cup

It's Coming Home etc. but England fans now want their team to lose against Belgium in their last group game of the World Cup.

Don't worry, though, it's not treason of the highest order, it's actually a cunning plan to go all the way in the tournament.

England and Belgium are already home and dry in terms of qualifying for the knockout stages after winning their first couple of games against Tunisia and Panama in Group G in Russia.

However, England fans are a brainy bunch and realise that if their team were to lose against Roberto Martinez's Belgium on Thursday night then they would in theory have a better draw.

If England finish second in their group, they would play Colombia in the last 16 of the World Cup, which is harder than playing Japan, but it would mean an easier draw after that.

In fact, it would mean England avoid Brazil in the quarter-finals and it would also be likely they could - if things go their way - dodge the likes of European champions Portugal and France until later on.

And fans aren't stupid, they know that is a possibility - so COME ON BELGIUM...

England have made a good start to the tournament after beating Tunisia in their first match and then hammering Panama, with captain Harry Kane scoring goals for fun.

It's a refreshing change for England supporters, who are usually anticipating humiliation and boring football in the latter stages of a tournament.

But Gareth Southgate's team seem to have a bit of a care-free attitude and it's coming up trumps. It's rumoured the manager could make lots of changes to his team against Belgium.

However, he said at his pre-match press conference: "We have not won a knockout game at the World Cup since 2006, so why we would start plotting which would be a better venue for our semi-final would be beyond me."

Never mind that, Gareth - IT'S COMING HOME.

To be fair, he's got a point. But some England fanatics still reckon they'd prefer to lose against Belgium and give themselves a bit of an easier ride. What do you think?
