Matt Le Tissier Wants An Unexpected Player Taking Penalties For England

" He's very confident and wants to do it so let him have a go."

It's safe to say Matt Le Tissier knows a thing or two about converting penalties, having missed just once from the spot in his 16 year career. So when 'Le God' talks about tucking the ball away from 12 yards, it's usually a good idea to pay attention.

Speaking exclusively to Sky Bet ahead of Euro 2016 the Southampton legend listed confidence and belief to be the key ingredients for a successful penalty at the highest level - and Le Tissier, who scored 47 out of his 48 penalty attempts, believes England goalkeeper Joe Hart has what it takes to do the business from the spot.

"I was with Joe a couple of weeks ago and watched him take some penalties. Joe is very confident and wants to do it so let him have a go."

There is some foundation to Le Tissier's belief in the goalkeeper with Hart having scored in three previous penalty shootouts. Once for England at the 2009 U21 European Championships and twice for Manchester City against Roma and LA Galaxy.

Obviously, given the Three Lions' history in penalty shoot outs, we'd rather Rooney, Kane, Hart and co do the business in normal time rather than needing to settle matters from 12 yards. Fortunately, if it does come to that though, Sky Bet have enlisted the expertise of Dr Ken Bray, author of 'How To Score: Science And The Beautiful Game', to scientifically explain how to take the perfect penalty:
