It's always a bit of a bummer when you hear about people half your age achieving more in one day than you probably ever will in a lifetime, but this kid definitely takes the biscuit - having managed to win himself and his country an Olympic gold medal, despite oversleeping after a big ol' Netflix binge.

We can all relate to half of his story, at least. I mean, how many times have you got hooked on a seriously addictive series, only to realise it's 5am and you have work in exactly three hours? Despite your best efforts, you arrive late to your desk with bags the size of Russia and a pretty angry boss.

But 17-year-old snowboarder Red Gerard has put us all to shame, indulging in a late-night binge the night before taking on the Winter Olympics - and still managing to absolutely smash it.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the teenager has spent the previous few days watching Netflix with teammate and roomie Kyle Mack, trying to keep a low profile and chill out before his big day. The night before, however, he crashed out during an episode of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and didn't appear at 6am when he was supposed to.

Eventually, Mack managed to drag him out of bed - but it was then that Gerard realised he couldn't find his jacket, instead having to borrow his mate's coat before bolting it out of the door armed with a egg, ham, avocado and cheese sandwich.

He then, of course, only went on to win the United States' first gold medal, scoring 87.16 on his final run in the men's slopestyle to beat Canadians Max Parrot and Mark McMorris.

When the Colorado teen saw the results, he couldn't help but yell 'Holy fuck!', even managing to slip through TV censors.

"It's crazy, to be honest, I cannot believe it," Gerard said once it had all sunk in. "I'm ecstatic.

"I can't believe I got to land my run. Just to land a run would have been plenty for me and to get on the podium, but to get first is crazy."

Just a bit, yeah.

His historic win not only made him the first Winter Olympic medalist born this century, but also acted as the firm proof we all needed that favouring Netflix over sleep isn't always that bad. Nice one all round, fella.
