Last night's FA Cup fifth round tie between Manchester City and Wigan Athletic was full of drama both during and after the game, with the post-match pitch invasion somewhat overshadowing one of the biggest upsets in years.

If you tuned into the BBC's coverage on Monday evening then you'll have witnessed Sergio Aguero appearing to lash out at a fan after the full-time whistle.

He was caught on camera appearing to strike a man in the face after the final whistle and plenty have called for a retrospective ban - so what was the reason behind his actions?

Reliable Spanish journalist Jose Alvarez Haya told ChiringuitoTV last night that a fan actually spat on Aguero.

"A Wigan fan spat at Agüero and he only defends himself of a probable knock. Something worst could have happened on the pitch with that invasion," he tweeted.

"Kun could be sanctioned by FA? And what happen with the fans inside the pitch? Where is the security? It is normal that a person defends himself when people came whit wrong attitude and spitting him... Let's be reasonable."

The FA is expected to launch an investigation into the Aguero incident, while Manchester City will question Wigan as to why the pitch invasion was allowed to happen and why it took so long to clear.

What are your thoughts on the scenes at the DW Stadium last night? Does Sergio Aguero deserve a ban after a fan reportedly spat at him?

All we know is the chances of a historic quadruple are now off the table for Guardiola's runaway Premier League leaders. At least they've still got that league position to console them.
