Elon Musk Offers Reddit User An Interview For A Job At Tesla

A post on Reddit impressed Musk so much he offered up a job interview with Tesla

You'd think Elon Musk directly offering you a job interview would be the opportunity of a lifetime, but after being proposed exactly that, one Reddit user turned the Tesla tycoon down - saying they weren't up for moving for the job.

The Redditor, GreenTheOnly, posted on the forum a few months back with an in-depth look at a Tesla Hardwear 3 self-driving upgrade, which is due to be fitted in upcoming Model S and X vehicles.

Now, the bulk of what GreenTheOnly said might go over the heads of anyone who's not quite as tech-savvy (i.e. most of us), but in an ELI5 (Explain Like I'm Five, in Reddit-speak), one commenter summarised the post by writing: "Hw3 is coming. It will have fast dedicated neural net processors. The current firmware does not do much more with this increased power. That will presumably come in future updates."

The detailed post has now reached Musk, who was so impressed he offered up a job interview with Tesla.

He tweeted: "Reddit is hardcore. Mostly correct analysis. Comments so dark..."

But next came the clincher, as he added: "Anyone who did this analysis should interview at Tesla."

It's something most people would jump at the chance for, but GreenTheOnly, who spotted his reply on Twitter, decided to play hardball.

They wrote: "What's the 'work from home' policy? Are the layoffs done with for now?"

I mean, it's not a no... Except that came later, back over on Reddit.

Users began to comment to flag Musk's offer, but GreenTheOnly said: "Yeah, I saw. Thanks. I was already approached by Tesla recruiting in the past."

Another Reddit user said Musk wanted GreenTheOnly to 'join Tesla', but got the reply: "Nope, only interview is on offer it looks like (which is a smart move, actually).

"Also I really hate being laid off. And I don't want to move anywhere and I heard Tesla has a strict 'must move to a Tesla location' policy."

In the comments section, GreenTheOnly also added: "You cannot even begin to imagine how much it would cost to move me to California."

After someone suggested they proposed working from home to Tesla, they also said they didn't think they were good enough to get whatever they want.

They wrote: "If they really wanted me, they'd have approached me by usual channels, since they know who I am."

To be honest, I'd be pretty content just being offered an interview directly by Elon Musk in itself. Definitely one to brag about, GreenTheOnly.
