The Jackass lot aren't exactly known for taking things easy, and over the years, they've suffered some pretty gnarly injuries.

Whether it's Johnny Knoxville popping his eye out or Steve-O smashing his teeth, they've really put their bodies through the mill.

And it's proven to be an expensive endeavour, too, with hospital bills stacking up to a colossal $24 million (£17.3m). Ouch.

The eye-watering sum has been worked out by the folks over at Nova Legal Funding, which deals with personal injury claims, looking at 79 injuries recorded by six members of Jackass.

However, they pointed out that the projected figure "only accounts for the reported injuries suffered by the main members" and that the real number could be closer to $38m.

It will come as no surprise to you that Jackass ringleader Knoxville has racked up the biggest bills, with his cuts and bruises coming to $8,663,000.

And this is down to a long list of injuries, including a brain haemorrhage ($2.5m), 16 concussions ($4m), a crotch injury ($120,000) and even a scalped head ($150,000).

It's also proven to be a costly exercise for Steve-O, who has forked out $5.82m on medical care for his numerous injuries suffered in the name of art.

He had a skin graft for 15 percent of his body ($900,000), seven broken teeth ($350,000), featured vertebrae ($800,000) and a fractured skull ($1.75m) during his time in the crew.

Ehren McGhehey has also had his fair share of scapes, coughing up $7.38m for a wide range of injuries, including three broken necks ($2.7m), four broken noses ($1.2m), nine surgeries on his knee ($1.1m) and a broken back ($800,000).

Next on the list is Dave England, whose injuries have cost an estimated $1.65m over the years, while Jason "Wee Man" Acuña has paid out $675,000 and Preston Lacy just $75,000.

Knoxville has always been open about the injuries he has sustained.

And back in 2010, he told Graham Norton about the time he 'broke his penis' during a stunt.

He told the stunned chat show host: "I think the most psychologically damaging was when I broke my penis a few years ago.

"I was trying to back flip a motorcycle and I can't ride a motorcycle.

"I came off the ramp. I let go of the bike, it goes 20 feet in the air, and comes down and breaks its handlebars off of my crotch."

Unsurprisingly, Knoxville was rushed straight to hospital to undergo surgery, and at the time of the interview said he was still having to use a '15 inch' catheter twice a day.

Evidently, though, it didn't ruin his penis completely because - as he quipped at the time - he's had a son since. In fact he's also had a daughter since too, so all must be working OK down there.
