At a certain age, snow stops being fun and becomes another of the hurdles you've got to overcome in life.

At one time it meant you'd wait for confirmation that your school had closed for the day, before wrapping up to lash snowballs at your mates. Once school becomes a distant memory, snow just makes the mornings that bit more difficult - you sit huddled in your car at 6am, trying to thaw it out before you can finally leave and take on the dreaded commute.

Well, rather than waste their money on de-icer, one savvy motorist instead had the ingenious idea of filling up a plastic food bag with warm water and sliding it across their windscreen, clearing the glass completely. Outstanding.

The driver shared a video of them demonstrating their trick on Facebook and it has since been viewed more than one million times, with more than 11,000 comments and 13,000 shares.

Daniel Harris, who posted the video, wrote: "Hot water in a food bag and bam you've got a de-icer and a hand warmer. Works a treat, and it's fast!"

He was quick to warn his friends and followers however, that it was just 'warm water' and not boiling.

Daniel added: "I USED WARM TAP WATER SO I COULD SAFELY HOLD IT AND LOWER THE RISK OF CRACKING MY SCREEN! THE DE-ICER CANS ARE SO COLD IN THE MORNING AND THIS WAY KEEPS U NICE AND TOASTY!!! OH AND YES IT WAS ICE NOT CONDENSATION. I KNOW IT LOOKS IT BUT TRY IT AND YOU WONT BE DISAPPOINTED!"

With temperatures set to drop over the coming weeks, not only could this simple trick save valuable time in the morning, it could also save commuters from potential fines.

At the moment, drivers who fail to defrost their screens properly could be slapped with a £60 fine and even three points on their licence.

And as you can imagine, the brilliantly simple hack has blown people's minds, with thousands commenting on the post.

One person wrote: "Omg !! Gonna try this !! Maybe stop using my classic country CD as an alternative."

Another said: "I'm deffo trying these, de-icing my car is the bane of my life."

A third said: "I've got some of those bags, I'll be giving this a whirl in the morning. This will save me cracking my windscreen."

"If only a knew that yesterday my wiper wouldn't a snapped", lamented another.

Just remember Daniel's advice: use warm water, not hot water.
