Winter Weather Returns To UK This Weekend With Snow And Floods

Winter Weather Returns To UK This Weekend With Snow And Floods

Just when you thought winter was finally over, it's coming back with a vengeance. The Met Office is warning of snow, flooding and more

Let's be honest - British weather sucks. There are plenty of glorious things about this little island worth celebrating, but its climate isn't one of them.

Any thoughts or hopes that that might have changed after the recent heatwave that resulted in the hottest April day for 70 years, and which had everybody Instagramming and BBQing (and Instagramming their BBQs), are about to be torn to shreds.

Yes, the Met Office are warning of snow and possible flooding in the South East from Sunday evening, so it looks like we're going back in time to winter. Oh, and there could also be gale-force winds, too, just for good measure. So it really feels like Britain.

In fact, it's predicted to be so miserable that rainfall of 25mm is expected in numerous areas of the South-East, while other parts of the region could see up to 70mm.

As a result, a yellow weather warning for rain has been issued for both Eastern and South-East England, starting at 9pm on Sunday and lasting until midnight on Monday. Joy!

Rainfall of at least one inch (25mm) is expected in many areas of the South-East, but some areas could receive more than two-and-a-half inches (70mm).

There will also be a severe reversal of temperature, because after that glorious bout of sunshine and warmth, daytime temperatures in rural parts of the South-East on Monday are going to plummet way down to about 5C.

That's much lower than it was earlier in the month, and about 9C lower than the average temperature for late April, which is about 14C.

Those in the North and South Downs might even see some snow, while the Met Office is warning that some homes and businesses are at risk from flooding. They're also anticipating difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

The good news is that gives you a perfect excuse to binge-watch whatever series you've been meaning to watch instead of going out to that birthday party for the friend who you like in small doses, but who gets really annoying for any extended period of time, especially when they're drunk. Hooray!
