Britain's Worst Train Stations Have Been Revealed And It's Bad News For Manchester

I mean, they're all just terrible

Everyone thinks that their commute is the worst one going. Unless you work from home or live in your office, it's nearly always just awful.

However, if you're looking to objectively prove that yours is the absolute worst, there is now a list of the worst train stations in the United Kingdom.

Obviously, all the major ones are pretty bad. They are expensive, over-crowded, and either too full of trains or not full enough.

The worst offender in the country is Manchester's Oxford Road station.

68 percent - that's more than two thirds of the entire amount of trains that pass through it - have been late, or worse, cancelled, so far in 2018.

Oh, and that's the stats for all times during the day. At peak times, 77 percent of trains don't arrive when they are supposed to or don't arrive at all.

As it happens, if you live in Manchester, you're pretty screwed whatever you do. Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Victoria stations are also in the top ten, at number six and eight respectively.

Surprisingly enough, York station is at number two. 65 percent of arrivals to the Yorkshire station failed to arrive as scheduled. Then it's a tie for third position between Gatwick - well, it is a busy airport - and Birmingham New Street.

Now, I know what you're all probably thinking - why are there no London stations in there? Surely, they must be some of the worst offenders, right?

To the surprise of absolutely nobody, you'd be correct. In fact, there is a separate list that exclusively covers London stations.

Interestingly (or not, you decide) none of them are as bad as the North of England's stations. Furthermore, all of the stations on the non-London list are in England. Make of that what you will.

This is perhaps for a few reasons. Firstly, timetable changes have led to complete and utter chaos in the North and South East of England.

Secondly, it could be that overcrowding and staff shortages have also played their part in services running slower or, as mentioned earlier, not at all.

However, there are some incidents that are not their fault. You'd have to be pretty cruel to blame them for this one...

A spokesperson from consumer champions Which? told The Metro: "Passengers have told us reliability is hugely important to them.

"People have been left deeply frustrated at the unacceptably high levels of delays and cancellations which impact on their everyday lives. Passengers must be at the centre of the forthcoming Government rail review, it must look at performance targets to drive improvements in punctuality and reliability for passengers.

"The review must not be used as an excuse to delay real action to improve passengers' experiences on the trains today. As a first step, the Government must introduce fully automatic compensation, ensuring more passengers get the money they are owed."

That would be nice. They could also try to encourage the trains to run on time, too. That way we wouldn't need compensating.

Just a thought.
