The couple who returned from their honeymoon to find a 6ft fence around their entire property are celebrating after it was pulled down.

Thomas and Rebekah Entwistle were heart-broken when they came back from their 11-day trip to find the massive fence erected around their new house, just 2ft from their front door on the Persimmon Homes Brook View estate in Blackburn.

The couple believed the fence was put up by an angry farmer who was locked in a dispute with the property developer over land boundaries.

The Entwistles only moved into the £220,000 property just before Christmas last year and, until now, had been delighted with their 'dream home'.

Thomas, 27, said: "This was our dream home and now it's turned into a nightmare - it feels like we are imprisoned in our own house by this fence.

"We are being held hostage in a land dispute which is nothing to do with us."Rebekah is always in tears. She is in despair - there was no warning and the fence just appeared.

"It is 2ft from our front window and front door - it's like having the Berlin Wall in front of our home."

Fortunately for the couple, just 72 hours after the fence appeared, it was torn down by a team from Persimmon Homes.

"We are so relieved," Thomas said. "I can't tell you how excited we are that the fence is down.

"Our fear now is that it will put it back up again - we just hope it is gone for good.

"I was nervous about coming to the press but I am so glad we did now - it may have saved us months of dispute."

A spokesman for Persimmon Homes said: "Our staff have taken down the fence after consultation with council planning officers."

Local councillor Sylvia Liddle said: "I am delighted for this young couple who have been so distressed - it is a victory for common sense and we now need to ensure it is a permanent solution."

Council officials will now see if the fence was breaching planning regulations.

A spokeswoman for the farmer's land agent Gary Hoerty Associates of Grindleton declined to comment.
