If the politicians on TV squabbling about Brexit and walls are making you feel all sad about the world, don't lose hope - there are still lovely people out there handing out soup to the homeless.

Diana has warmed the hearts of the nation - and the stomachs of the homeless - after she was filmed handing out hot soup to rough sleepers in 3C temperatures.

The 72-year-old was filmed on Wednesday night in Southsea, Portsmouth, by Charlie Franks, who witnessed the woman's goodwill and thought sharing the footage on Facebook might spread further kind-heartedness.

The video has since been viewed more than 160,000 times, so Diana has brought comfort to way more people than she may ever have imagined with her humble gesture.

In the video, Diana can be seen handing out cups of soup from a trolley to homeless people, who are sitting on the ground in Albert Road.

The homeless people and the Diana appear to exchange pleasantries, with the elderly woman seemingly unperturbed by the bitter conditions.

Mr Franks shared the video with the hope of giving Diana the recognition she deserved, branding her the 'Pompey Soup Lady'.

Diana has amassed many fans online.

He said: "This absolute legend of a lady deserves all the shares that she gets on social media. I just filmed this in Albert road Southsea.

"By the looks of it she makes a load of soup and goes out to hand it to the homeless! My faith in humanity is restored, let's make her famous! #pompeysouplady."

The video has been shared more than 3,500 times and hundreds of comments have poured in - with a unanimously positive verdict.

"Omg, what a wonderful lady. Hope it was well received," said one person.

Another added: "A wonderful woman she should be thanked and someway. Be awarded."

While a third wrote: "What a lovely lady but these guys are so cracked out there nuts they don't care or have a clue what this lovely lady has done!"

One person who knows Diana, commented: "Share everyone, she is amazing and one of the most selfless people I know.

"She's not on Facebook but her daughter, son in law and grandkids are, and I'm sure they will pass in this admiration.

"If only we had more people like Diana."

Also in the comments section, Diana's daughter Katy Elizabeth confirmed her mother was volunteering as part of an initiative run by St Swithuns Church.

She said: "Lol she's been caught out, she's supposed to tell me and Ian when she goes so we know she is back!"

Hopefully Diana's unexpected viral fame will be reason enough for her to keep up the good work.
