Prince Phillip Makes Another Public Gaffe About Man With Beard

Prince Phillip Makes Another Public Gaffe About Man With Beard

When a man with a rather large beard approached him, the Duke of Edinburgh has some very choice words to say...

Despite Prince Phillip performing an absolute shitload of public duties during his long royal life, many only remember the ones where he said something utterly ridiculous. While some of the things he's uttered are outrageous, you can't help but chuckle at some for being so un-Royal-like.

But thankfully the world has been blessed with another public gaffe to add to the lengthy list before 2017 is officially finished.

While wishing people a happy new year in Sandringham, the 96-year-old came across a bloke who had a rather large, ginger beard.

An onlooker has told the Mirror: "[Prince Phillip] pointed at him in a funny way and turned to a bodyguard, saying 'Is that a terrorist?'

Ian Smith also told the newspaper: "He was obviously having a little joke, but he said it within earshot of the man, who burst out laughing and seemed to find it hilarious. I think Philip knew he was going to be overheard.

"Everyone knows Prince Philip has a sense of humour, although some might have thought it was a risqué comment."

We'll be seeing less and less of these moments as the longest-lived male member of the British royal family retired from his public duties this year. Since 1952, the Duke of Edinburgh has carried out a whopping 22,191 solo engagements - which is pretty fucking impressive.

One of his best moments came just two years ago when he was involved in a photoshoot marking the 75th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. As the RAF photographer was trying to organise everyone in the shot, the Prince lost his patience and told him: "Just take the fucking picture."

Some of his more facepalm-inducing comments have come when visiting Commonwealth countries.

In 2002, he asked an Australian Aborigine: "Do you still throw spears at each other?"

The DoE has asked locals in the Cayman Islands whether they're all descended from pirates and even posed the following question to a British trekker in Papua New Guinea: "You managed not to get eaten then?"

Memorably and lamentably, he also told a group of British students in China: "If you stay here much longer you'll all be slitty-eyed."

Prince Phillip has also been pretty savage to some of the best-selling singers, saying about Sir Tom Jones: "It's difficult to see how it's possible to become immensely valuable by singing what are the most hideous songs."

When he found out Madonna would be singing the track for the James Bond film Die Another Day, he quipped: "Are we going to need earplugs?"
