ITV Has Scheduled 'Fast And Furious 5' Instead Of 'Saturday Night Takeaway'

ITV Has Scheduled 'Fast And Furious 5' Instead Of 'Saturday Night Takeaway'

They had every film ever to choose from, and they went with this.

It's certainly been a busy week for the folks down at ITV.

If you haven't heard, Ant McPartlin of 'Ant and Dec' fame has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and is set to check himself back into rehab.

This means that their flagship Saturday night show Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway can't go ahead as usual and a replacement show had to be found.

They've pulled a load of the other shows on the schedule forward by 90 minutes and stuck a film in at 10:15pm.

Either as a cruel joke or not, they've gone for Fast Five - the fifth instalment in the Fast and Furious series and a film about driving really, really, fast and quite dangerously.

Now, it's unlikely that that they meant to do this - either as a joke or a dig - but this is 2018 and the internet never misses a trick.

A lot of people have found this quite funny.

One Twitter user said: "So Ant gets caught drink driving and #ITV helps fill the void of with Fast and Furious 5. Couldn't make this stuff up."

Another said: "ITV have replaced and put Fast and Furious 5 in the time slot due to Ant's drink driving, is that a joke."

However, there is a serious side to this. Ant has previously struggled against addiction and spent a long time in rehab last year, on top of that he split up with his wife of 11 years following that.

He returned to the UK's screens for I'm a Celebrity... last year but is now on his way back to continue his recovery.

He was arrested after failing a breathalyser test following a crash on March 18.

Obviously the show will not take place this weekend, but it is unclear what will happen for the final two shows of the series - it could be Dec flying solo, a guest host could be roped in, or the show may not go on altogether.
