Viewers Left Shocked After Woman Removes Her Nose On 'This Morning'

A woman has left viewers of ITV's This Morning shocked after she took off her prosthetic nose in the middle of an interview.

Jayne Hardman revealed to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford that she was diagnosed with a rare condition after Cece, her huge pet dog jumped on her.

The large Neapolitan Mastiff dog hit her in the nose and caused it to bleed. Doctors confirmed that it was not broken, but the swelling remained.

Doctors were stumped, but eventually reached the conclusion that the trauma suffered had triggered Wegener's granulomatosis in her. It had previously lain dormant but can be activated by trauma.

Wegener's granulomatosis is an auto-immune disease that affects only 11 out of every million people.

It attacks body tissue and eats away at it, which is what happened to Jayne's nose.

It ended up collapsing and she suffered mental as well as physical problems, describing herself as 'hideous' and too scared to leave the house.

Luckily for her, she managed to get a magnetic false nose that - as well as being almost unnoticeable - also allows her to smell and breathe.

Some people were perhaps a little bit unprepared for her to whip her false nose off right there and then during the interview, but it certainly got straight to the point.

Despite how realistic it looks, there are still issues with it. She revealed that on occasion she had sneezed it off.

Eamonn asked her if she was worried about her prosthetic nose ever falling off, she replied: I have sneezed it, once. I do tend to hold my nose now when I sneeze."

Despite that unfortunate problem, a lot of viewers were inspired by her story.

One Twitter user said: "What a brave woman!!! Imagine just losing your nose like that! #thismorning"

She has also inspired other sufferers of the condition. Another Twitter comment said: "@thismorning so glad to see a fellow weggie sufferer raising awareness of this horrible disease!

"The disease affects the nose and every part of us. I am ecstatic that she has found a way forward and not let this disease get the better of her! What an inspiration. #thismorning"

Jayne will be on TV again this evening to tell her story on ITV's This Time Next Year. The show is presented by Davina McCall and follows the lives of people on a journey of self-improvement over the course of a year.
