Now, the idea that some people use fake IDs won't exactly come as a revelation to anyone (though don't do it, kids, it's bad), with many having relied on them as youths to buy things they're not supposed to or sneak in to places where they shouldn't be.

In those cases, the motive is clear - these people simply want what their age prohibits them from enjoying, and either borrowing someone else's ID card or faking your own (again, don't go getting any ideas) becomes a way for them to rectify the situation.

But for one person, the reason why their face didn't match up to the one on their ID card proved a little less clear - and that's because they appeared to be in the possession of Homer Simpson's identification.

The anonymous man had been pulled over by an officer from the Thames Valley Police, who was clearly left a little baffled at what was handed over to them.

Thames Valley Police shared the news of the bizarre exchange in a tweet that said: "Earlier this week, PC Phillips stopped a car in Milton Keynes.

"When she tried to identify the driver's ID, she found the below..."

The tweet also explained that the driver's car had been seized, and the man was reported for driving with no insurance - and driving without a proper licence, of course.

People were quick to join in on the joke, with one person saying that it would be a 'Marg-inal offence', in an amusing reference to Homer's blue-haired wife.

Another even pondered why the person hadn't tried to replicate Homer's real ID card:

Others also spotted that the person's card had one big, fat mistake on it:

That's right, it couldn't possible be Homer's real ID card, as he actually lives at 742 Evergreen Terrace, not 28 Springfield Way, as the imposter card suggested.

Oh, and his full name is actually Homer J. Simpson, with the 'J' standing for Jay.

That's the moral of the story, folks: you can always tell a fake ID from a real one, even if yours is completely and utterly credible by suggesting that you are the patriarch of one of the world's most famous cartoon families.
