Say goodbye to any hope of a social life, because Netflix and Sky have just joined forces to bring you the ultimate 'I'm-never-leaving-my-couch' package, ideal for fans of binge watching and ignoring real life.

Later this year, Sky customers will be able to access Netflix shows through its Sky Q platform to make the process 'easier and simpler', Sky said.

Customers will be able to pay for Netflix as part of their package with Sky, but as yet no prices or launch dates have been announced.

The new package is being rolled out across Europe, with the UK being first to get the deal, before it moves into Italy, Germany and Austria.

Netflix chief executive Reed Hastings said: "With this innovative new partnership and Netflix's stellar line up of original content from across the world, Sky's customers will be able to seamlessly access and enjoy all the best entertainment in one place."

Sky chief executive Jeremy Darroch told Sky News: "The exciting new features coming to Sky Q will enable Sky customers to access even more of the best entertainment delivered over the best product platform.

"By placing Sky and Netflix content side-by-side, along with programmes from the likes of HBO, Showtime, Fox and Disney, we are making the entertainment experience even easier and simpler for our customers.

"Our recent announcements mean we will extend our leadership in delivering customers the best viewing and user experience in Europe."

Anyone who signs up to the new package will see Netflix's programmes integrated into the usual interface, promoted alongside Sky's own offerings. That means it's going to take even longer to pick something to watch, which is the clear downside to all of this.

Netflix is the world's biggest internet entertainment service with just shy of 118 million customers in more than 190 countries - it's massive surge in popularity has given a blow to 'traditional' broadcasters.

Other television providers, including Virgin Media and BT, have been offering Netflix to their customers for some time. However, until now, Sky had always held out.
