A bloke who was tortured by his girlfriend in a shocking case of domestic violence has bravely spoken about his ordeal.

Alex Skeel was with his now ex-girlfriend Jordan Worth for five years and in that time, he was starved, stabbed, had his life threatened, was made to sleep on the floor and even had boiling water poured over him, leading to second and third-degree burns.

The 22-year-old has appeared on ITV's This Morning to explain how a seemingly normal relationship turned so toxic and wanted to help anyone else who might be in his situation.

At first, they were like any other couple.

But then she started playing weird games like telling Alex his grandad had died, only to tell him later that it was all a joke.

Then Jordan upped the ante and started controlling his social media and who he hung out with until she eventually destroyed his phone.

"I had no way of contacting anyone. She told me if I ever tried to leave she would kill me," he told Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

If you thought that was bad, when Alex moved in with his partner, things got worse, much worse.

Viewers got a brief look at the scars on his arms.

"It started off I was lying in the bed. She'd wait until I was asleep then hit me on the head with a bottle. Then she moved on to a hammer. Started hitting me everywhere - shins, arms, head.

"There was nothing I could do. She started stabbing me with a knife, hit me like it was a weapon. It would leave big gashes that were untreated."

Alex showed the TV hosts a scar that one of her knife wounds left, adding that if it was a centimetre either side he could have died.

Neighbours called the police on one occasion due to screaming coming from their apartment, but it wasn't until later that Alex let officers know what was actually happening.

When he was asked why he didn't just leave his abusive partner, he explained that it's not as black and white as that. It's a question that plagues every domestic violence victim and there are several reasons why they stay.

But Alex wanted to use part of his time on This Morning to call out to any other sufferers, saying: "Talk - if you don't talk about it you're going to get worse. If you talk about it, you're going to get better. Because that's what I did. And look where I am now."

Jordan has been jailed for seven and a half years for grievous bodily harm with intent and coercive and controlling behaviour.
