Children No Longer See Actor, Footballer Or Singer As Top Career Choice

Children No Longer See Actor, Footballer Or Singer As Top Career Choice

A recent survey found that kids would much rather be entrepreneurs.

Think back to what you wanted to be when you were a child, it was probably something quite exciting wasn't it? A singer or a surgeon, maybe? What about a footballer or an actor? Or a postman or bricklayer - I'm blaming Postman Pat and Bob the Builder for those two.

Well, today's kids are a bit more savvy; because a new survey has found that ahead of being a pop star, athlete or actor, children today would rather be a business owner or entrepreneur.

Check them out, precocious little buggers. I don't think I could even spell entrepreneur when I was a kid; I struggle now.

In total, 1,534 schoolchildren were asked what they fancied being when they were older and 12 percent opted for business leader or entrepreneurs, compared to just seven percent wanting to be the next Ed Sheeran and seven percent choosing acting as their dream career.

A lowly 2 percent picked athlete, which I reckon tells you everything you need to know about London 2012's legacy.

In slightly better news, eight percent wanted to become a teacher, which is nice, but still can't compete with, what I'm calling, The Alan Sugar Effect, the Mirror reports.

Shows such as Dragons' Den and The Apprentice are likely to show kids a side to working life that previous generations probably didn't see. And one that actually looks pretty awesome.

Who wouldn't want to be the next Peter Jones judging the fuck out of some idiot who comes to you to ask for £670,000 for a six percent share of his headphones for cats business? Or the next Lord Sugar, who manages to still get a laugh in the boardroom even though his jokes aren't great, because no one wants to be fired? Sign me up.

The survey, which was conducted on behalf of Domino's pizza to coincide with its new TeamSkills leadership programme, also found that previously highly rated career choices such as chef, TV personality and doctor didn't even get into the top ten.

Should we be worried no one wants to be a doctor anymore? Or, more importantly, a chef? Because we definitely need more Gordon Ramsays in the world.
