A victim approached the man who had beaten him up several years earlier and was knocked unconscious once again.

The Grimsby Telegraph reports that the unnamed man recognised Reece Wilkin as the person who had previously punched him and decided to go over and demand answers.

Grimsby Crown Court heard the man asked: "Do you know who I am? I'm the lad you punched next door in Gypsy Tears."

Seconds later Wilkin struck the man, rendering him unconscious with broken cheekbones.

According to reports, Wilkin, 34, of Claremont Road, Grimsby, admitted causing grievous bodily harm to the victim on 23 December, 2017.

Prosecuting, Andrew Bailey told the court Wilkin had previously punched the other man in the face on December 14, 2013 - an altercation which saw him receive a fine after appearing in court the following year.

In their second meeting, Wilkin reportedly struck the man as hard as possible, leaving him with broken cheekbones, which resulted in surgery and three plates being inserted into his cheeks, causing the victim's face to 'balloon up' for two months while he recovered.

Mitigating in court on behalf of Wilkin, Saleem Khan said it was in fact the victim himself who decided to approach his client.

He told the court how Wilkin - a father-of-two - was out with his wife and when the victim approached him he felt 'intimidated'.

"The trouble came to him. He didn't go looking for it. He felt intimidated. He was under some fear and apprehension at the time.

"But for the victim's actions, this would never have happened," said Mr Khan.

It is the second time Wilkin had assaulted the victim.

It was also heard that the defendant had shown remorse and had raised money for charity in the past.

Recorder Christopher Williams said: "It was unwise, perhaps, for you to be approached at that time.

"You have done great things in terms of your life for the sake of others.

Wilkin was handed a 15-month suspended prison sentence, order to carry out 160 hours' of unpaid work and was told to pay £1,000 compensation.

He was also given a four-year restraining order.
