A young man from Warrington has died after becoming unwell at Creamfields festival.

Shortly before 12.15am on the morning of Saturday 24 August, the unnamed 19-year-old was seen looking ill by security staff who had been patrolling the Cheshire-based music festival.

After being assessed within a festival medical tent, the man was taken by ambulance to Warrington District General Hospital. Tragically, nothing could be done to save his life.

The man's family have now been made aware of his death and a post-mortem examination will be carried out in due course.

Cheshire police said the death is not being treated as suspicious.

Detective Inspector Alistair Hinze made the following statement: "There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.

"A file will prepared for the coroner and our thoughts are with the family at this incredibly difficult time."

A Creamfields spokesperson said: "We are deeply saddened to hear of this tragic accident.

"We send our deepest condolences to his loved ones and we continue to work closely with the authorities."

This incident marks the second death of a teenager at a UK festival over the weekend. As reported by The Guardian, a 17-year-old girl from Oldham has died at Leeds Festival from a suspected drugs overdose.

Following her death yesterday (24 August), Leeds festival's police commander, Supt Matt Davison said: "Our thoughts are with the family of the girl who has died. We have family liaison officers in place supporting them and they have asked that their privacy is respected at this extremely difficult time.

"While the exact cause of her death is yet to be established, the information we have indicates that she has taken a combination of drugs.

"This is a tragic incident and I hope serves as a timely reminder to others of the risk of taking illegal substances, particularly when mixing different types of drugs and drinking alcohol.

"If anyone has any concerns for either themselves or others at the festival, I would urge them to contact staff on site or seek urgent medical assistance."
