A massive fire has broken out at a zoo in Scotland for the second time in a year.

Horrific footage has been shared on social media showing one of the buildings at Fife Zoo ablaze.

According to reports, four fire engines rushed to the zoo after the alarm was raised at around 12.30pm this afternoon.

All visitors had to be evacuated, and while one was reportedly treated for smoke inhalation, everyone is said to be safe.

It also appears as though no animals have been harmed as a result of the fire.

According to reports, the fire is now said to be under control, but firefighters remain on the scene.

Speaking to the Fife Herald, a spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were alerted at 12.32pm on Sunday, July 18 to reports of a building fire at Birniefield, Collessie, in Fife.

"Operations control mobilised four appliances to the scene where a fire was affecting a barn, a caravan and a car.

"There are no reported casualties at this time, crews remain in attendance."

In an update to its visitors on Facebook, a spokesperson for the zoo said: "ATTENTION VISITORS. Unfortunately due to an incident on site, we will be closed for the rest of the day.

"Please contact us from tomorrow if you have any booking enquiries."

This comes around a year since another fire broke out at the same zoo in the building that houses the soft play activities.

At the time, dramatic pictures shared on social media showed smoke and flames pouring out of a building at the attraction.

In a post on social media, the zoo said: "All humans and animals are safe. All emergency teams are on site to contain the fire. Thank you for the concern."

Speaking to Fife Today, an eyewitness said it was incredibly difficult to get last year's fire under control.

They said: "There is smoke and flames pouring out of the soft play building.

"Luckily the keepers were able to evacuate the marmosets safely. Their enclosure was closest to the site of the fire.

"It looked at one point like the firefighters had got the blaze under control, but the flames have now taken hold of the building.

"It's a devastating blow for the owners, with the facility only in its infancy."
