Beer Company Warns That UK Pint Prices Are About To Rise

"We are starting to see the real inflation rate"

Life is change. Change comes, it goes, it comes back again. Just look at Michael Keaton. Who'da thunk he'd have a career again after that disappearing act he did?

In my adult life, there has been a lot of change, but there have also been a few constants. One of them is pints, lots and lots of lovely pints. Sometimes too many lovely pints. Sadly, they're about to get even more expensive.

They're not exactly cheap in my neck of the woods (the Big Smoke), either. I used to live in Prague. They were a pound. They still are. It was heaven. I should go back.

Recently, we reported that on average, 568ml of nectary goodness costs punters in Surrey £4.40 ($5.81) on average, the most expensive in the UK. However, the world's biggest brewer, Anheuser-Busch Inbev, has just warned that pints in Britain are about to get even more expensive. Fuck's sake.

Anheuser-Busch InBev is the world's largest brewer and its various companies make the likes of Stella Artois, Becks, Carling Black Label, Foster's and Budweiser. What's more, since taking over its biggest rival in 2015 (SABMiller), giving it control over the likes of Coors.

In short, they know a thing or two about pricing beers. But why the sudden hike? AB InBev's president for Northern Europe (that's includes us) Jason Warner recently told the Telegraph: "There has to be an increase... We are starting to see the real inflation rate of the UK coming through and for our retail partners they will see it across all categories,"

Recent months have seen a rise in spending in the UK but there are worries that higher inflation and other consumer concerns are putting customers off spending.

Though Warner was unable to say when pint prices were set to go up, he seemed fairly confident that it would happen. This could spell a sharp fall in pub-based pinting and another rise in folks using offies and supermarkets, which offer cheaper deals; a shame, given that there is nothing quite as lovely as a pint. Except two lovely pints.
