A witness has described a mum's heartache as two of her children remain missing, after a fire engulfed the Grenfell Tower in London.

Michael Paramasivan, who lives on the seventh floor of the tower block, told BBC Radio 4 how the woman raced from her apartment with her six kids, but got to the ground level with only four.

He says: "It was horrendous. There was one woman who had escaped her flat on the 21st floor with her six children, but when she got down to the bottom of the stairs, she only had four of them with her.

"She can't find two of her children anywhere. She's in a community centre absolutely breaking her heart."

Hers is one of many stories emerging from the devastating fire, which took hold at 12.54am and swiftly ripped through the building. More than 200 firefighters have been involved in tackling the blaze.

One eyewitness has described the moment a desperate mum dropped her baby out of her window to safety.

Samira Lamrani has told the Telegraph: "People were starting to appear at the windows, frantically banging and screaming. The horrific fire has resulted in a number of fatalities as well as dozens of injuries.

"The windows were slightly ajar - a woman was gesturing that she was about to throw her baby and if somebody could catch her baby. Somebody did, a gentleman ran forward and managed to grab the baby."

Another woman, called Zara, spoke to LBC Radio, telling them she had seen a woman throw her son, who she believed to be about five, out of a window. She told the radio station: "One woman actually threw her son out of the window. I think he's OK. I think he might have just had some broken bones and bruises."

An action group from Grenfell Tower is believed to have written a warning in which they said the building could be a fire risk, adding that 'only a catastrophic event will expose' the issues, the Independent reports.

Six fatalities have been confirmed, with dozens taken to hospital.

A spokesperson for Theresa May has released a statement: "The Prime Minister is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life in the Grenfell Tower and is being kept constantly updated on the situation."

The Metropolitan Police have set up a casualty bureau for anyone concerned about their friends and family - call 0800 0961 233.
