A gang of seven men have been found guilty of sexually abusing young girls, in a van they had given the vile name the 'shag wagon'.

The grooming gang were called 'predatory and cynical' by the judge after the men were found guilty by the jury which took a record-breaking 107 hours and 31 minutes, over 24 days, to reach its verdict.

The seven men - Raheem Ahmed, Moinul Islam, Kamran Khan, Kameer Iqbal, Khalid Hussain, Alladitta Yousaf and Assad Hussain - were convicted on Friday following a give month trial which began on 9 October 2017.

Raheem Ahmed indecently assaulted two girls.

The group of men denied their involvement in the child sexual exploitation, indecent assault, rape and imprisonment of five victims between 1998 and 2005.

Their trail at Oxford Crown Court heard first-person accounts from the victims, who were all aged between 13 and 15 at the time, in which they said they had been plied with drink and drugs.

Some of the victims recalled the men regularly referring to a van driven by them as the 'shag wagon', which had a licence plate ending in SHG.

Speaking after the verdicts were given, Judge Peter Ross said: "Systematic and widespread grooming, that is what this case has revealed.

Assad Hussain was convicted of three counts of rape.

"The investigation has involved countless hours of work and [the police] are entitled to commendations for the work they have done."

Two other men, Saboor Adbul and Haji Khan were acquitted of all charges. And an additional two men involved in the proceedings cannot be named for legal reasons.

The court was told how the gang had groomed and coerced the girls into sex at a number of addresses across Oxford.

Prosecutor Oliver Saxby QC said: "Each of the young girls we are dealing with shared one very important characteristic, they were vulnerable.

Khalid Hussain was convicted of one rape and one indecent assault.

"Perfect prey for, in the main, young men prepared to exploit them for casual sexual gratification that was easy, regular and readily available."

One victim told the court that she was pressured into sex at numerous locations across the city, including lay-bys and woods.

She told jurors how Assad Hussain, Kameer Iqbal, Khalid Hussain and Alladitta Yousaf had all indecently assaulted or raped her on various occasions.

Another woman, who was aged 14 at the time, was sexually assaulted by Moinul Islam, the court heard, while at Cronin's B&B in Iffley Road.

Moinul Islam raped and supplied drugs to the victims.

The women said they were forced to take part in 'sex parties' with large groups of men. Victims also recalled a black Nissan Serena people carrier, which they say was used for many of the sexual assaults, including gang rape.

One woman said of the vehicle: "They would pick the girls, have sex with them, and dump them. Everything happened in that Serena."

She went on to say that she plied with drugs and alcohol before the men would 'take it turns' to have sex with her.

The men will be sentenced in June.
