A group of 'paedophile hunters' snared a man who planned to go camping with a 14-year-old girl.

Vigilante groups have sprung up across the UK, pretending to be youngsters online in order to trap would-be abusers.

The groups often record themselves confronting the perpetrators after chatting to them and documenting their intentions.

This was the tactic used by David Poole, 38, when Samir Rignall hopped off a train at Hereford to meet up with who he thought would be a 14-year-old girl.

Poole and his team confronted Rignall at the train station, before he tried to find a way to leave. Unfortunately for him there were no trains and he was stuck in his spot.

The paedophile hunter called the police and said: "I've been talking to a fella online, he is travelling to meet what he believes to be a 14-year-old girl. Would you send a unit down because he is trying to get back on the train you see. He has got a tent with him."

Poole and his team baited Rignall for a month after finding him on an over-18s dating website.

Poole said: "Straight away he got into it and said he was into BDSM and tying people up.

"I told him my age and said I was 14 but he said it was not a problem, age doesn't matter to him and things like that."

As a result of the sting operation, Rignall pleaded guilty to attempting to meet a girl under 16 years of age following grooming at Worcester Crown Court.

Rignall, who will be sentenced next month, also admitted attempting to incite a girl aged 13 to 15 to engage in sexual activity as well as breaching of a sexual harm prevention order and failing to comply with notification requirements of sex offenders register.

But when the man was confronted at the train station, what David and the police found inside his bag was disturbing.

Mixed in between a tent and a blanket were several sex toys.

As Rignall was messaging David - he sent pictures of a number of toys which he wanted to use on the imaginary 14-year-old girl.

David set up his paedophile hunting group after his son was targeted by predators online.

But the police aren't as supportive as you might think about these groups.

Detective Chief Inspector Jon Roberts released a statement saying, "While we understand that this is a very emotive subject, the police do not encourage members of the public to pursue their own investigations.

"This can compromise ongoing police investigations. Identifying alleged paedophiles is best left to the police who can ensure vulnerable victims are protected."

But that warning isn't being absorbed by some in the UK.

Two British mums have also turned vigilante because they don't think the police are up to scratch.

The pair appeared on Good Morning Britain, hiding their identities, and shared their story with Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.

They talked about how they set up traps for men by using fake social media accounts, pretending to be young girls.

They've also arranged to meet up with some men, and performed 'sting' operations.

They told Good Morning Britain: "We set the operation up because we didn't feel the police were doing enough. We would put a historical picture up in a chat room and wait for these people to talk with us.

"Everything is left down to them, the ball is in their court. We wait for them to approach us with a meet. Several times we have handed over information to police and in all fairness there is no follow up."

A former policeman, who also appeared on the show, said that the women could be putting themselves and other children in danger.

He believes the police should train groups like this and work alongside them to catch potential offenders.
