Petrolhead Defends His Right To Park His Car Across Two Spaces

Petrolhead Defends His Right To Park His Car Across Two Spaces

Well, as long as he's fine, that's all that matters

Ah, parking. It's the great leveller. Whether you've got a Lamborghini or a bashed-up Ford Fiesta Zetec, you'll still have to find somewhere that it fits and then stick it in.

However, some people just don't get the etiquette and make life more stressful for everyone else with their parking. We've never had an explanation for it, until now...

One man who religiously parks his car across two spaces has defended his actions - or at least tried to - and said that he will continue to do it.

Chris Jameson is something of a petrolhead. The 30-year-old from Lowestoft in Sussex has owned eight cars in the past six years and he claims that they've all been damaged in some way by careless people in car parks.

He's not the kind of person who drives around in just any old car, either.

His latest runabout is a Nissan Fairlady 300Z. He's had it since October and that whole time he has been parking it straight across the middle of two spaces. His justification for straddling two perfectly good spaces is that it leaves extra room, so people can get in and out of their cars without bashing his.

OK, it also means that there is one less space in the car park, so somebody might end up disappointed, but as long as Chris' car doesn't get a scratch on the door, that's a price we're all willing to pay, right?

It won't surprise you to learn that some people think that Chris' method is a bit selfish, but he says that he is entitled to do it, and here's why.

He explained: "I'm considerate about where I park. I haven't done it to be a dick deliberately.

"I'm just trying to minimise the damage to my car as much as I can. I pay for two tickets. I can see why people get pissed off when people park badly - I hate that myself.

"But I always park well within the lines, leave a good space either side of my car. I didn't deliberately just go and do that."

He continued: "The car I had before this was a BMW and that was damaged, my Audi TT before that was, and my Nissan 200 SX had the same thing happen. And my Toyota before that."

It would be annoying to have your car dented, admittedly, but surely that is a risk you take in any circumstances?

When he brought his argument to social media, one person commented: "So where does it end? Can he take up two lanes on a motorway for fear someone may pull into him?"

Fair point, well made.

Another added: "It's difficult enough trying to find a space without emasculated drivers taking two spaces for their toy."

Feisty words, indeed.
