Cambridgeshire Police Ask People To 'Think Twice' Before Reporting Dead Body In 'Terrible' Video

Cambridgeshire Police Ask People To 'Think Twice' Before Reporting Dead Body In 'Terrible' Video

Fancy poking around in a roll of carpet that could be a corpse? Over my dead body

Have you ever heard anyone say 'a friend will help you move house, a best friend will help you move a body'?

Well, now you and your mate can leave the body basically anywhere you like around Cambridgeshire and the council will come and take it away, according to Cambridgeshire Police Service.

Not really - obviously (and don't kill people, please) - but Cambridgeshire Constabulary have been getting a lot of stick for releasing a video that tells people to think twice before reporting what they think is a dead body.

They shared the video to their Twitter page on Wednesday with the hashtag #WednesdayWisdom.

The video is captioned 'Hello, Cambridgeshire police 999 emergency' and zooms in on a pile of what looks like carpet - but could be a dead body in there, mafia style.

The caption alternates between 'someone's dumped a body' and 'somebody's dumped a carpet' before offering the advice:

"Not all calls are police matters. To report fly-tipping, contact your council. When it is a policing matter Cambridgeshire Constabulary will be there for you. Think twice. Is your call a policing matter?"

As anyone who goes on Twitter will know - sometimes life comes at you fast, and the local coppers learnt that when people on the social media site started expressing their frustration and confusion back at them.

One user said: "What are Cambridge Police saying here? Don't report bodies to them? Investigate things wrapped up that looked like dumped bodies before calling the police? Sounds like terrible advice."

Another said: "What is that actually supposed to mean? That we should report a suspicious body shaped bundle as fly tipping, possibly leaving a murder scene undiscovered for weeks? Or that we're supposed to investigate, risking contamination of the scene?"

Luckily, Cambridgeshire Police's long suffering social media officer was on the case to clear up the confusion.

They tweeted after the event to say: "Apologies for any confusion. This is just trying to get people to think about the difference between what is and isn't a policing matter.

"We often get calls about issues such as fly tipping that should be directed to the council. Obviously if you find a body please contact us."

As a police force, you would hope that you'd never have to say the phrase 'obviously if you find a body please contact us' - especially after issuing an awareness video.
