Schoolboys Give Taxi Fare To Year 7 Student Who Got The Wrong Bus On His First Day

They ordered him a taxi and one of them lent him a tenner to pay the fare. Good LADs.

A mum has praised the actions of a group of schoolboys who stepped in to help her son after he got on the wrong bus after his first day at a new school.

The 11-year-old was in a state of distress and crying as he was taken further away from his home in Liverpool after boarding the wrong bus.

He was carrying no money and has no mobile phone, but three fellow students helped him out and made sure he got home.

Year 11 Tom O'Brien lent the boy £10 for a taxi to his house, and two Year 7 boys, Harry Campbell and Dylan Robson, made sure that he made it back OK.

Harry Campbell's praised the actions of the LADs on Facebook and the post has since gone viral. She said: "It was my husband who saw Harry standing outside the house, talking to this boy we had never seen before.

"Harry had told Dylan to ring the taxi to pick him up from our house, to make sure he got home safe.

"Then he had walked him to ours and was stood outside waiting until the taxi came.

"God love him, this little fella was upset and had got on the wrong bus and with it being his first day wouldn't have known very many people either.

"I asked Harry had he seen the boy today and how he was, and he said he was fine and had thanked him.

"I just think it is lovely. I'm very proud of him.

"It puts faith back in humanity and that little fella will know there are good people who will help him."

Tom O'Brien's dad has also spoken about how proud he is of his son. Kenny O'Brien said: "I am very proud of him.

"He is a very thoughtful lad and has a great personality.

"He didn't tell me what had happened until later in the night when he realised people were talking about it on Facebook.

"He just said he was on the bus asking the Year 7's how they had got on, on their first day and he noticed this kid sat on his own, looking anxious and upset and asked him was he okay.

"The boy said he had got on the wrong bus and was getting further and further away from home so Tom thought on his feet, told him to get off the bus and gave him £10 for a taxi."

To complete the story, the £10 wasn't even needed in the end, as the taxi driver, from Liverpool's Delta Cars, let the young kid off with the fare. Excellent stuff all around.

The headteacher of Holy Family Catholic High School - the school all of the boys attend - has also commended his pupils for their actions.

Matthew Symes said: "It is just lovely and at the start of the year it really sets the tone for everyone else.

"Tom is an incredibly thoughtful and all round good guy.

"I went to see him yesterday after receiving a lot of calls from parents about what had happened.

"And he said he was pleased at the publicity because many 15-year-olds get bad press.

"But he was just pleased the boy had got home safe.

"But he has set a great example in front of a whole bus of Year 7's - who have all that worry and anxiety about the bigger kids.

"It is a brilliant example of the older pupils looking out for them."
