Two Southern Railway staff have been suspended following an incident at Sutton station with a man - thought to be homeless - in which bystanders have claimed the workers poured dirty water over him.

The footage was uploaded to Facebook by Heidi-Liv Gravesen, who wrote: "This is how Southern fail staff treat another human being in Sutton and I didn't start filming till they had already wacked him with the mop and put even more water on and around him. Complaint raised with Southern fail."

In the video, you can see someone pour water from a mop bucket onto the floor where the man is lying down, before proceeding to mop the area.

The workers then question why Gravesen is filming the incident, to which she responds: "That's absolutely disgusting. Disgusting behaviour of another human being - that's why I'm filming it."

In a comment, Gravesen explained there had been 'some trouble earlier' with the man, but when they started pouring the water 'he was sleeping doing nothing to nobody'.

"My point is then call the police - two wrongs and all that," she said.

Other people were equally unimpressed by the scenes, with one person commenting: "This is disgusting. Not only is this a vile way to treat anybody, it was outside the station, so on PUBLIC HIGHWAY!

"The water is filthy and looks like it had some kind of disinfectant in it, which is really dangerous to put on somebody's skin. What's worse, the worker says he's going to get MORE!! I hope Southern fire these scumbags immediately."

Someone else added: "Have some respect for those less fortunate. I wonder if he'd do that to a normal commuter who decided to sit down and refused to move."

A third added: "The worlds gone mad. Can't we treat people in the way we'd also like to be treated?"

Another person also advised: "What's the saying? 'Never look down on someone, unless you're helping them up'."

Southern Railway has since said it has suspended the two members of staff from the video, along with a third.

Angie Doll, Passenger Services Director for Southern Railway, told LADbible: "We take this incident extremely seriously and have started an investigation. We suspended the two members of staff seen in the video and a third colleague who we identified from station CCTV.

"We would like to apologise to the homeless man and we are trying to make contact with him to offer help and support."
