If there's a barney brewing in the world of football, then you can bet that Vinnie Jones isn't going to be too far away from it.

The famed hardman-turned-actor weighed in on the spat - pun intended - that has followed the release of a video that showed former England defender and current Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher spitting at a young supporter after Saturday's match between Manchester United and Liverpool.

Speaking to Alan Brazil on talkSPORT radio, Jones said: "It is cowardly. How has the lad driving it not driven after Jamie, rammed him, dragged him out of the car and beat seven... you know what I mean. If someone spat at my daughter sitting in the car, I would have been after them."

And he didn't mince his words on Carragher's future.

"There is no sitting on the fence here, Jamie is down the Jobcentre tomorrow," he continued.

"Spitting at 14-year-olds through a window? He is presenting on the TV. For Christ's sake, he is supposed to be one of the top men. You can't condone that whatsoever. It is absolute filth."

Carragher was in his car on the way home after his beloved Liverpool were defeated 2-1 by arch-rivals United at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime when a fellow motorist, accompanied by his 14-year-old daughter, pulled up alongside his vehicle.

There was an exchange of words in which the girl was asking Carragher about the game and winding him up about United's victory. Carragher then said 'alright' and spat at the other car, with some of the phlegm hitting the girl's face. Her father filmed the incident, which went viral over the weekend.

Carragher took to Twitter to apologise to the family unreservedly, posting: "Totally out of order and I've apologised personally to all the family this evening. I was goaded 3/4 times along the motorway while being filmed and lost my rag. No excuse, apologies."

He later is reported as having telephoned the girl and her father, saying: "I just want to apologise and I hope you are OK." The girl is believed to have accepted the apology.

Former Manchester City footballer Joey Barton also chimed in on talkSPORT, saying "Look, he's made a mistake. Say that was me, I think my position would be under fire and I think [his] will be.

"I think it's disappointing because he's a good pundit but you just can't condone that. You can't do that to a young girl outside a football match with that kind of profile."
