An incredible adults-only treehouse has opened its doors to guests seeking a bit of peace and quiet among the treetops.

Based just outside of York, the unique getaway features everything from a hot tub to a flat screen TV, giving a modern edge to the idyllic Swiss Family Robinson dream.

Situated in Bishop Wilton, around 10 miles from York, The Treehouse was opened recently by Wolds Edge Holidays Lodges, which was set up by Ruth Rowland.

It offers stunning panoramic views across the Yorkshire Wolds, along with comforts like a king-size bed, en-suite shower and open plan living room.

With a large elevated deck, you can enjoy the incredible countryside scenery from up high, making you feel just like a real-life Tarzan... well, if Tarzan had a hot tub.

Rowland, who set up the holiday lodges company with her family in 2011, said she hopes The Treehouse will offer people a tranquil escape from their hectic, busy lives.

She said: "The idea evolved from a desire to share the beautiful, unspoilt Yorkshire Wolds and surrounding rural area with like-minded people who want to enjoy the outdoors and take time away from their busy lives.

"Our vision and enthusiasm has enabled us to lovingly transform a small rural field into a national award-winning collection of luxury self-catering accommodation: luxurious lodges, gold star glamping Snug Huts and now the opening of this unique Treehouse.

"It has been my passion since childhood to build a treehouse and I'm so excited see it completed - a dream come true."

The Treehouse was built with help from The European Rural Development Program: Europe, which invests in rural areas of tourism.

It sleeps two people - with prices starting at £459 for two nights - and is only available to people over 18, meaning unlike most treehouses, you won't find any snotty kids running around disturbing the peace.

While The Treehouse has all the modern-day comforts, it's worth remembering that it is still a treehouse, meaning it's recommended that you arrive with small bags or suitcases and wear flat shoes - in turn making the ascent to the retreat that little bit easier.
