Stoke-on-Trent's Waterworld attraction is undergoing a whopping £10 million makeover, with four brand-new rides set to open next week.

The park says two of the rides will be among the tallest and fastest in the UK; with the Thunderbolt ride dropping guest down a near vertical slide, reaching speeds of up to 39kph (24mph).

Cyclone is another 'severe' slide, while the other two, Storm Chaser and Hurricane, are 'medium' - as such the rides are really designed for kids and you'll need to be 1.2 metres (3ft 11in) to go on any of the new ones, but Waterworld does cater for little ones, too.

The waterpark has already shared some teaser images and video across social media this week.

Mo Chaudry, the owner of the water park, said: "We believe the rides on our top platform will be the highest in the UK - and Thunderbolt will also be the fastest. We're quite proud of that.

"The opening of these rides marks the end of a mammoth construction project, and the first stage of a huge new era for Waterworld which cements our position as the UK's number one indoor tropical aqua park.

"In addition to the new rides, we are expanding our outdoor pool area, and have already completed a major upgrade of lockers and changing facilities.

"And work is also well under way on a three-storey extension which will soon house a new M Club spa and fitness facility, indoor running track, children's soft play area, and Adventure Island Mini Golf attraction.

"This all adds up to the biggest single investment in Waterworld's 30-year history, creating new jobs, boosting the tourism economy, and providing work for local contractors."

An official date for the opening of the new rides hasn't been given yet, you can keep an eye on the Waterworld social media channels to find out more or check out the website for tickets.
