Stepfather Cries His Eyes Out After Stepdaughter Surprises Him With Adoption Papers

This could bring a tear to a glass eye

A frankly ridiculously heart-warming video has emerged that shows a man who has acted as a father to a young girl for most of her life finally being given the papers that ask for him to legally adopt her.

Jamie has been called 'Dad' by 17-year-old Jaymi-Lea since she was just five years old, but he never thought she would go so far as asking her to adopt her formally.

Well, that's exactly what she did. One morning in their home in Prenton, Merseyside, she presented him with a booklet that explained that she wanted her stepfather to become her official father in the eyes of the law.

Despite being initially reluctant to read the thing out, and even more reluctant for Jaymi-Lea's mum, Katy, to film the whole thing, he eventually read through the whole booklet and realised what it was all about.

As soon as he realised this he broke down into tears of joy and sobbed uncontrollably.

Eventually his new and officially adopted daughter came into the shot too, and the pair told each other how much they love each other, and both cried and hugged it out.

If it doesn't make you feel a bit emotional and warm inside, you've obviously got no heart whatsoever.

As we've covered already, Jamie has been acting as a father to Jaymi-Lea for many years already, so this is not going to be a drastic change in their relationship. It is, however, a lovely gesture that recognises the hard work that he has put in to raising her from a young age.

Points also have to go to the dog that intervened at the end of the video, trying to grab its moment of fame.

Let's just remember, adoption is a great thing to do. Lots of kids don't have their own parents, or for some reason can't be with them - therefore, adoption is in some cases their only chance to lead a normal family life.

A big shout out has to go to 33-year-old Brian Carpenter. Brian, who is from Yorkshire, has adopted four children, and has not yet ruled out taking in more kids.

What's more, all of the kids that he has adopted have disabilities.

He was voted the Adopter Champion of the Year last year for his kindness and dedication to making these kids' lives better.

He's also one of the youngest gay men in Yorkshire to adopt, and the first single man in his home area of Kirklees to adopt.

He said: "People have called me a saint and say what I do is remarkable, but I just wanted to be a dad and adopting is my way of becoming a dad."
