Video Shows ATM Spitting Out £20 Notes At Busy Tube Station

Good job the guy had his duffel bag...

Video footage has emerged that shows a Bitcoin ATM suddenly spurting out loads of £20 notes in a busy London Underground station.

The video was taken at Bond Street station in Central London and shows an embarrassed looking man standing by while the cash machine spits out a whole heap of money.

It is thought that the man was making a large withdrawal, but after the machine went haywire security staff had to stand guard so that he didn't have his money stolen before he could put it into his duffel bag.

The customer was trying to collect the money - even using his feet at one stage - so that he could cram it into the bag. A load of commuters stopped to gawk at the man's predicament, and - you would imagine - size up whether any of the dosh was going spare.

Bitcoin Technologies, which operates the machine, said that the ATM suddenly started spaffing out £20 notes because a customer - hopefully the man pictured with the duffel bag - was making a large withdrawal.

The company was at pains to confirm that the machine did not just start randomly dispensing money.

Adam Gramowski, the owner and CEO of Bitcoin Technologies, said the machines that his company provides are not great at dealing with the size of UK money.

He told The Sun: "As you can see there is a bag in the front of ATM. However our ATMs support large transactions and it is fair to say that a larger, redesigned presenter would be a good solution.

"Our customer was not particularly careful, although the ATM should be redesigned to cope better with small denominations used in the UK."

Either way, it looks like a pretty stressful situation for the guy who is trying to hold onto his wealth as it comes flying out of a cash machine like a low-budget Crystal Maze remake.

The security guards actually seem to ignore him, but do manage to surround him enough to make sure that someone doesn't nick his cash.

Imagine the chaos that would have been caused if he hadn't had the duffel bag, and the security guards hadn't been there. It doesn't bear thinking about.

That said, it might add an added frisson of danger and excitement to the average commute across the capital.

As long as it isn't your money that everyone else is fighting for, right?
