In what may be the most unnecessarily over-dramatic reply ever to be featured on ITV's News at Ten, an enraged KFC customer woman vented her frustration at the company's chicken shortage, and it may be the most perfect response to the situation so far.

You can see her reaction in the above clip, as she exclaims: "I've had to go to Burger King!"

Although fleeting, the clip of the woman has already gone viral, with thousands of amused social media users circulating it online.

The KFC chicken shortage has been making headlines up and down the country after the fast food restaurant's new contract with courier DHL, quite literally, failed to deliver.

Because of the chicken shortage caused by the cock-up, 575 out of 900 KFC branches around the country have this far been forced to close their doors.

Luckily, the story had a happy ending, as KFC saw the broadcast and responded in cheery fashion:

So all's well that ends well, eh?

Well, let's hope so. A spokesperson for KFC said they expected the number of store closures to fall in the coming days, as teams 'work flat-out all hours to clear the backlog'.

"Each day more deliveries are being made," they said. "However, we expect the disruption to some restaurants to continue over the remainder of the week, meaning some will be closed and others operating with a reduced menu or shortened hours."

DHL's managing director of retail, John Boulter, said the delivery firm regretted the 'interruption of supply' and apologised for the 'inconvenience and disappointment caused to KFC and their customers'.

"The reasons for this unforeseen interruption of this complex service are being worked on with a goal to return to normal service levels as soon as possible," he added.

"We are committed to step-by-step improvements to allow KFC to reopen its stores over the coming days."

However, the GMB union claimed it had warned KFC that switching from previous courier Bidvest to DHL was a mistake.

The change of delivery service led to 255 job losses at Bidvest and the closure of one of the company's depots, said Mick Rix, GMB national officer.

"Bidvest are specialists - a food distribution firm with years of experience. DHL are scratching around for any work they can get, and undercut them," he said.

"KFC are left with hundreds of restaurants closed while DHL try and run the whole operation out of one distribution centre. Three weeks ago, KFC knew they had made a terrible mistake, but by then it was too late."

Meanwhile, some chicken fanatics have become so bereft that they have resorted to ringing the police in a last-ditch effort to have the issue resolved.

Tower Hamlets Metropolitan Police Service tweeted: "Please do not contact us about the #KFCCrisis - it is not a police matter if your favourite eatery is not serving the menu that you desire."
