Police in central London are searching for a taxi driver after CCTV footage captured him dumping an unconscious passenger out of his car on a busy street.

The shocking video shows the black cab parked in a designated taxi zone with the driver, wearing a blue shirt and tan shorts, getting out and storming around to the rear passenger doors.

He then reaches into the car and pulls out an unconscious man, dragging him out of the vehicle and onto the floor, before manhandling him around to lie behind the taxi.

The driver then calmly strides back to the front seat and starts the car, leaving the man lying flat on his back in the street with his shoes scattered across the road.

The footage jumps forwards to show members of the public attempting to assist the man, who is still unconscious. Meanwhile, on the other side of the road, the taxi driver walks nonchalantly past and glances over at the stricken passenger, before sticking his head into the window of another waiting Hackney carriage to have a conversation with another driver.

He ends the conversation and then walks back out of shot, again sneaking a peek over his shoulder to see a crowd forming around the man in the street.

The incident took place in the City of London at 6am on 16 May at Fenchurch Place, close to Fenchurch Street station in the heart of the City.

The man lying on the ground was found by an off-duty police officer around 10 minutes after he had been left by the taxi driver and was given first aid before the emergency services arrived.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene and subsequently took him to hospital.

PC Christopher Hook of the City of London Police said: "To forcibly move a vulnerable person from your taxi and to leave them lying in the middle of the road is appalling and we need to find the man that did this.

"If you have any information on this incident, please call us on 0207 601 2222 and quote the reference number 2403."

The man is described as white, with white hair, balding slightly, and was wearing a blue shirt and tan shorts.

He is estimated to be between 50 and 60 years of age.
