Things can get a little wild on a bank holiday weekend.

Usually, we can't be trusted with just two days off work, but when you throw in a third day away from work, plus it being the final weekend of the best summer that anyone can remember, then things are likely to get out of hand.

By the looks of the weekend just gone in Blackpool, things were a little less Last Night of the Proms and a little more Last Days of Rome, as revellers took to the seaside resort to drink like there was no tomorrow.

The heatwave might have broken and our usual fare of wind and rain has returned, but that's never put the good people of Blackpool off a night out, and they were out in force to paint the town red over the weekend.

Naturally, the paparazzi were out in force to capture the madness that ensued, from blokes thumping each other to lasses eating chips and folk being sick in the streets.

It's not really news at this point that young people in Britain like to drink to excess, eat fried foods and probably should wear a coat when it gets cold, but that's not stopped it making the papers on a consistent basis.

Meanwhile in Ireland, the Pope continued his visit and is resolutely still a Catholic, while in Russia, a large brown bear was seen exiting the woods with a used bog roll and a rolled up copy of Pravda under his arm.

Elsewhere in Newcastle, people got drunk and ate chips in the Bigg Market, while at Notting Hill Carnival, there were people spotted eating chips in an inebriated state.

Tune in tomorrow to read more about how people who drink alcohol get hangovers.
