Woman seriously injured after being accidentally dumped into back of bin lorry and compacted four times

It's not known why she was in the bin

A woman has been seriously injured after she was accidentally dumped in the back of a bin lorry and compacted four times.

The Manchester Fire Department, New Hampshire, believes the woman had been inside a bin which was picked up by a lorry on its standard route.

Stuck in the rubbish, the woman was dumped into the back of the vehicle and those nearby could hear her screams as she was compacted multiple times.

She was able to survive but suffered serious injuries, and her ordeal was only over after one of the bin lorry workers spotted her on a camera located in the back of the vehicle.

How she ended up in the bin of an apartment complex and how long she had been inside for are not known, with the emergency services called to help just before 1pm local time on Monday (29 January).

She was standing up and shouting for help when firefighters arrived to rescue her, and they were able to lower a stretcher through the roof of the lorry via a crane.

The woman was then taken to Elliot Hospital at around 1.30pm local time to be treated for her serious injuries, which are thought to include broken bones.

"She was in agony. All you heard was screaming," neighbour Amanda Czzowitz told local news outlet Boston 25, who also reported that the woman is a 60-year-old who is expected to survive.

"I can tell you that she was not an unsheltered individual, but as to why she was in there, we don’t know yet," Manchester fire chief Ryan Cashin told Manchester Ink Link.

He told them that, according to privacy regulations, the first priority was stabilising the woman's condition before uncovering further details.

People do occasionally wind up getting stuck in a bin, with an Australian woman becoming trapped inside one after getting drunk on a night out.

Passers by could see her legs dangling out of the bin while a worried friend looked on, and thanks to a little roof over the rubbish receptacle, getting out proved far more difficult than getting in the bin.

Fortunately someone did help her out of her predicament, though not before the situation was immortalised in video form.

Meanwhile, some people end up in the bin because they want to be there, like the bloke who inserted himself into a wheelie bin so he could drink a cocktail in there.

As you do.
