Pensioner Furiously Slaps Woman After She Refuses To Give Up Her Seat On Subway

A pensioner in China slapped a woman on the subway after she refused to give up her seat for him - and someone captured it on camera

As your mum probably always told you, it costs nothing to be nice to others, but for some reason a lot of people seem to forget that when it comes to travelling on public transport. If you've ever been on the Tube during rush hour, you'll know just how true that is, but it seems selfish behaviour isn't just limited to twats on the London Underground. Take a look:

As you can see, an old man was slapped a woman on a subway train in central China after she reportedly refused to give him her seat. We can't see the run-up to the incident in the clip, but you can see the clearly agitated man reach out and strike her across the face.

By all accounts the pair, who were travelling on the No 6 line on the Wuhan Metro yesterday, started arguing, with the man hurling a string of abuse at the woman after she refused to stand up and give the man her seat. That's when he slapped her.

Now, there are two things to consider here. One: who knows what the woman's situation is - maybe she has a bad leg or some ailment that isn't immediately obvious. Either way, while it might seem polite to give up your seat to your elders, it's not an obligation.

Nobody else had offered the man their seat, either - why did he pick on her?

The second thing: you should never hit anyone, really, but a man hitting a woman is never, ever going to go down well. Judging by the reaction of the other travellers in the clip, a lot of them seem to agree.

The incident occurred at about 9.20am as the train was travelling between Dazhi Road and Jianghan Road stations.

The man was travelling with a bicycle and, according to Chutian Metropolitan Daily, looking for a seat. After the woman, estimated to be in her 40s, refused, she reportedly called him a 'self-conceited man' and accused him of bullying.

That clearly didn't sit too well with him, and that's when he slapped her. The video of the incident has been the subject of great debate among Chinese net users.

A number of people have taken her side. One user said "This man is just crazy. If I were the woman, I would probably have slapped him back!"

Another wrote: "The woman doesn't look like a young person at all - she has every right to stay in her seat."

Others, however, sided with the man, saying that she should have given him her seat. "You should be respectful to the elderly no matter what."

It could be argued that it works both ways, though, and that slapping someone in the face isn't particularly respectful. Just a thought.
