The old photo has resurfaced online

We've had our fair share of time traveller stories this year, with dozens of people coming forward to say that they're from the far-flung future - some of them even claim to have proof.

But as yet, we've not seen any proof of anyone from the future living in the past - until now, because eagle-eyed social media users reckon this photo taken on a beach in the 1940s shows one guy using a mobile phone.

Behold:

In the image, which was shot in September 1943, the man can be seen peering down at something in his hands, which many people pointed out looks like a phone. I know, all that time ago, eh? Got to be a time traveller, if you ask me. It's the only possible explanation.

Let's take a closer look:

There you go. Undeniable proof, isn't it? I think we can close the book on this one, guys.

The image resurfaced on Twitter today after a guy called Stuart Humphryes shared it, writing: "British war workers escape to the seaside - this Cornish beach was photographed in September 1943.

"(It would be lovely if one of you were able to identify which beach!)"

However, no one jumped in to help him out with his query, because they were too busy wondering why the guy in the brown suit had a phone.

One poster wrote: "Er...is it just me or is this guy checking his phone...in the 1950s?"

While a second joked: "Good catch. It's clearly the man in the shot is a time travelling tourist checking his mobile device.

"Finally, the evidence we need that time travel is real.

"We now see things in old photos that we missed before but now we know they're phones now that we have them."

But Humphryes reckons there's a less fun explanation, replying: "I think he's rolling a cigarette."

Turns out Humph (I can call you Humph, right? Cheers Humph) is actually a multimedia artist who's best known for colourising BBC sci-fi series Doctor Who - which is, of course, all about time travel. You'd think he'd be all over this theory, wouldn't you? Come on mate, play the game.

I have a bigger question, though - never mind the phone, who wears a suit to the beach?

This isn't the first time people reckon they've spotted a time traveller in an old image. Back in 2016, a painting from 1607 with the catchy title 'Man Hands a Letter to a Woman in a Hall' went viral as it appeared the woman in question was holding an iPhone.

Apple boss Tim Cook commented: "I always thought I knew when the iPhone was invented, but now I'm not so sure anymore."
