Customer Furious With Slippers As They 'Have Swastikas All Over The Soles'

He ordered them as they looked 'perfectly respectable' online.

There must be hundreds, maybe thousands, of products that get complained about per day.

It's a very realistic probability that something you've ordered online may get to your house damaged, broken or not what you expect. If a pair of trainers come without laces, for example, that's a fair reason to complain. However, you won't usually find anyone kicking up a fuss about the tread on the bottom of footwear.

Sam Purdie, 81, may be one of the first to complain about that, but his reason for doing so might be justified.

He claimed that a pair of slippers he ordered online had swastikas all over the soles. Other than that, they were 'perfectly respectable', apparently.

"I ordered a pair of slippers which on first examination looked good, but when they arrived I realised they had swastikas all over the soles," Sam said.

"You could absolutely notice the pattern right away.

"They looked good, but they were of course very careful not to show you the soles of the slippers."

He added: "I'm a regular customer and they usually ask you to give them a review of products, so I did.

"I wrote that I was not happy with my swastika-embroidered slippers and that I certainly won't be wearing them.

"I'm not Jewish, but I am old enough to have very unpleasant memories of swastikas."

Sam's warning to others wasn't met with a good response, as the site he ordered the slippers warned that he'd be banned from reviewing if he continued to leave "abusive" messages.

"They responded saying I had been abusive in my review. But it's an automated response, I think the fact I had used the word swastika upset them," he said.

"I haven't asked for a rebate or anything from them, but they will never be going on my feet."

The supplier of the product told the Dundee Courier: "This is the first time that this has been brought to our attention.

"This outsole is widely available in China and has not been developed by us."

As far as complaints go, this one is fairly unique.
