It's been less than a month since the Killer Clown craze was announced as being back with a vengeance, and once again it's reared its ugly head.

This week, a Killer Clown wannabe was arrested after dressing up as The Joker and carrying out a crime spree just miles from the real Gotham in Nottinghamshire. You can't make this stuff up.

29-year-old Damien Hammond terrorised police and shop staff over the course of three months, all the while dressed as the Batman villain. When he was finally caught by the police, his mugshot was taken - needless to say, it's absolutely priceless.

The Sun reports that Hammond has since admitted a string of charges including criminal damage, obstructing a police officer and possessing weed.

He also pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct towards staff in branches of Tesco Express and Shoe Zone. Oh yeah, and he scared the crap out of a bunch of drivers by waving a gun-shaped lighter while standing amongst traffic. Gotham's dark prince strikes again.

Of course, his crimes will not go unpunished and this week Hammond was sentenced to 22 weeks in jail at Nottingham Magistrates' Court.

On hearing his sentence, the comic book impersonator, who appeared in court with bright green hair, screamed: "Send me to prison, I don't care," adding, "I will kill today." Yikes - looks like Batman's got his work cut out for him.

Unfortunately it appears the 'Killer Clown' craze is enjoying something of a resurgence in recent months. The trend initially took off across the UK in 2016, when a number of pranksters were spotted yielding weapons and dressing like Pennywise's henchmen.

Although it kind of died down, last month two boys over in Kent reported to the police that they were chased down by a man dressed as a circus dweller who shouted 'run or die' while 'holding a knife'.

This incident teamed with Hammond and his Joker-inspired antics and it looks like the whole bizarre killer clown movement is making a comeback. Pennywise will be delighted.
