Police have allegedly identified a man who is known as the 'subway brake bandit' from a picture of him exposing himself.

23-year-old Isaiah Thompson was arrested and is facing trail for pulling the emergency brake levers on the back of trains on the New York City subway system.

He is alleged to have caused 747 delays over a three month span.

Thompson is also alleged to have exposed his genitals on the back of a subway train at May 16th. On this occasion, a shocked passenger managed to capture the incident in a photograph taken on their phone.

That photograph was then sent to the police. This is where the plot starts to thicken.

A matter of days after this incident, the 'brake bandit' was captured on surveillance cameras at the exact same train station, then seconds later the brakes of that particular car were pulled.

According to the New York Post the police then cross-checked that surveillance footage with the photo sent to them by the innocent bystander on the train showing the man getting his tackle out.

They then realised that it was the same person and, acting on a tip off, tracked down Isaiah Thompson.

He's been charged with public lewdness for the May 16th incident, as well as reckless endangerment and criminal trespassing for the brake-pulling incidents.

On Friday he was in police custody after a judge put a $5,000 cash bond over his head.

Before his arrest, police released the CCTV footage that shows a man riding a subway car in Manhattan immediately before the brakes were pulled.

They believe that man to have been Thompson.

At the time, the man was wearing a t-shirt that reads "Swag Don't Come Cheap" as well as a New York Yankees baseball cap.

He boarded the train at West 14th street station before leaving the car at the back and riding for several stations out at the back of the train. Then, the emergency brake was pulled.

Reports obtained by Jalopnik suggest that there have been 747 incidents in which trains have been delayed or disrupted because of these incidents.

The first one is thought to have taken place on March 11th 2019. On that occasion, the brake was pulled on an uptown 5 train leaving Grand Central Station.

Immediately after the brake was activated, a subway conductor saw a man climbing onto the tracks behind the car.
