Emirati Woman Files For Divorce Because Husband Forgot Her Burger

Emirati Woman Files For Divorce Because Husband Forgot Her Burger

Putting the 'irate' in United Arab Emirates

A woman in the United Arab Emirates has filed for divorce from her husband because he forgot to order her dinner. Yes, you read that right.

The woman, who is in her twenties, said that her soon-to-be ex-husband had been chilling out with his mates, but on his way back home he forgot to pick up a burger meal for her from a fast food joint.

When he arrived back at 3am - which is pretty late, to be fair - they had a raging argument. That argument escalated to such an extent that the woman left her home. OK, so maybe there is more to it than simply the burger. We'll probably never know.

A lawyer involved with the case, Hasan Al Mazrooqi, said that couples need to manage their expectations of what marriage is like. He reckons that will help stop marital debates and disagreements spilling out of the home and into the courts.

Al Mazrooqi said: "The law stipulates that if there is no personal harm, couples are referred to a judge who will try to help them solve their problems. If the wife insists on the divorce, the post-marriage dowry will be voided."

Still, insisting on a divorce because of a burger? Seems a bit far-fetched.

Stuff like this does really happen, though. Pretty regularly, it seems.

Could a simple burger have solved everything?

Recently, in Kuwait, a marriage was ended after just a matter of minutes. The newlyweds were enjoying themselves on their special day, but then the bride lost her footing.

Instead of reacting like a loving and caring husband, the man ridiculed her for her slip. It turns out that people don't like being insulted, especially on their wedding day.

The bride went straight back and had their union annulled.

Girl, you don't need that kind of negativity in your life - fair play.

As it happens, a lot of people support the woman's decision. After all, if you're getting made to look like a dick by the man you're supposed to spend the rest of your life with after just three minutes, what is it going to be like after 30 years?

Better to get it out of the way straight away.

One person commented: "If this is how he acts right at the beginning, it's better to leave him."

A valid point, sure enough.

Another added: "A marriage with no respect is a failed one right from the beginning."

It does beg the question of how they actually made it to the altar in the first instance? If the hatred and lack of respect was there to begin with, it surely must have bubbled over before?

The mind boggles.
